Email Suffolk Council to Save the Arts and Culture! - Support Equity's alternative plan

Suffolk County Council has been overwhelmed by Equity's campaign to Stop the Cuts. Now we need you to write to the Councillor reponsible for the Arts & Culture in Suffolk demanding he support our proposal to safeguard arts & culture funding in our communities.

We're asking him to ringfence 80% of the grant the Council received from the government, for the existing nine arts organisations in Suffolk that provide the core of SEND arts, school theatre, mental health workshops, youth theatre and more in our area.

RE: Equity Proposal Regarding Proposed Cuts To Arts Core Funding 
                                                                                
As the portfolio holder for the arts across Suffolk I am writing to you to ask you to support Equity's alternative funding proposal for the arts in Suffolk, to avoid the damaging 100% cut to funding for the 9 effected arts organisations that provide so much important community art in our area.
You will no doubt be aware of the large amount of media coverage of the proposed cuts as well as a well attended demonstration outside Endeavor House last month. At the demonstration were many residents who had directly benefitted from the community work done by New Wolsey Theatre, Eastern Angles, and the other arts and cultural organisations that currently benefit from core funding. The funding means they can make long term plans, employ people and enjoy some stability.
SEND children particularly benefit from the community based arts and cultural projects offered by the recipients of the core funding. From reading the council’s own Equality Impact Assessment it is clear that the core funding cuts will have a disproportionate and devasting impact on this group.
Equity's proposal is for 80% of the new £500k pot (from the extra money received from central government) is distributed to the existing recipients of core funding and the remaining 20% available for others in the form of biddable projects.
I support this proposal as a compromise that allows some certainty through to 2026 for the existing recipients yet gives arts and culture a boost across the county in the form of money for new projects. As a Suffolk resident I ask you to support this alternative funding plan.
